Here we are, another year drawing to a close and everyone busy preparing for Christmas.

Speaking of which, hopefully those preparations included painting/making some baubles to decorate the Christmas Tree we are entering in the Christmas Tree Festival at St. John’s.

The tree will go up on Wednesday 5th December and we also be having a stall on Saturday 8th December between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Donations of small paintings/drawings/cards etc., will be gratefully accepted. These can be given to Ann our secretary, and she will also be there on the Saturday to receive your donations. All proceeds to Art Society funds. Please, if you can, go along, admire the trees, enjoy a cuppa and help the Church with their fundraising, whilst getting into the ‘Christmas Spirit’.

Looking back over the year, our August exhibition was a great success, thanks to the weather, and this means our finances are healthier than last year! Thank you to all those who took part, and to all those that stewarded and helped with the setting up and taking down of the paintings, and thank you all for the entries, without them there wouldn’t be an exhibition! Sally was an excellent stand-in for Janet, who didn’t return from her holiday until the Friday evening.

(Short message from Margaret Hunter our President)

We dedicated our exhibition to Chris Taylor who passed away this year, sadly. He had been a member since 2002 and was a great ambassador and supporter, this now lies on the shoulders of Ann his partner, and we hope she will always be our ‘friend’ Chris in his time was a Committee member and Exhibition Secretary and lastly Chairman. He was also a talented artist and a few of his lovely paintings were on display. Chris left a lasting impression and the Committee he chaired will endeavour to carry on his good work.

The Charity donation dish at the exhibition raised £60, and Committee have agreed to donate £20 to St John’s and £40 to the ‘little bus’ driver Colin, as a thank you for the way he keeps a caring eye on all his passengers – We are sure you’ll all agree, worthy causes.

By the time this goes out, we should know the results of the Tesco (tokens) count and Pauline will report back to us.

We have welcomed a few new Members throughout the year, and hope they are enjoying the workshops and getting any help and advice they need.

This year too, Ann managed to get us a facebook page. FRIENDS OF FILEY ART SOCIETY and it seems to be going well, take a look and you can post on there, ask questions, give advice and generally use it to post pictures, or give us your news. There is a short interview with 3 of us, on BBC Radio York, on there for you to listen to.

We have been approached by a TV company and will be being interviewed this Thursday. Please bring along an example of your work. This is voluntary, so you don’t have to partake (More to come on that – probably after the AGM.)

Looking ahead to next year – we have been approached by “ART WAVES” Bridlington, to see if we would, as a Society be interested in taking part.

Ann is gathering more information so it can be put to all Members, to see what interest it generates. Hopefully this information will be available at the AGM in January, or shortly after.
